how can i apply for help?

There have been many important changes to the 2015 Richmond Christmas Fund. Please read the details below carefully if you are planning to apply.

The Richmond Christmas Fund provides a grocery gift certificate for each family member. Families who have children 12 and under may also choose gifts for their children from the Toy Room. Teens 13-17 will receive gift cards.

We regret to inform you that as of 2015, we are no longer able to offer sponsorship. Thank you for your understanding.

2015 Registration and Toy Pick-Up Dates

The Richmond Christmas Fund will be doing SAME DAY family registration and toy pick up. Make sure to bring all required documents and be ready to bring toys home with you on the same day you register. If you have children, please arrange for child care as children will not be allowed in the Toy Room.

Please be prepared to pick up ALL toys on the same day that you register. Public transit is not recommended in case of bulky toys. Once you have finished taking your toys from the toy room, you will not be allowed to come back at a later time to exchange toys or to pick up toys left over by accident.

Registration and pick-up takes place on the 3rd floor of the Richmond Caring Place, 7000 Minoru Boulevard.

NEW: Proof of eligibility

If you received help from the Christmas Fund in 2014, you will qualify again for 2015 only. We will check names in our 2014 database. You will still need to bring picture ID, CareCards for all family members, and current proof of Richmond residency. In 2016, the same proof of eligibility (see below) will be required for everyone.

If you did not receive help from the Christmas Fund in 2014, in order to qualify for the Christmas Fund this year, every individual must bring original documents that prove you are currently enrolled in at least ONE government income assistance program. For example:

  • (City of Richmond) Recreation Fee Subsidy Program
  • Guaranteed Income Supplement
  • BC Child Care Subsidy
  • BC Housing assistance

Here is a guide to government income assistance programs (PDF download) available to Richmond residents. For a faster and easier registration, please bring as many proof of eligibility documents as you have available.

ALL applicants must bring the following (originals only)

Regardless of whether or not you registered for assistance in 2014, ALL applicants must bring the following:

  • Picture ID for yourself
  • CareCards for ALL family members being registered
  • Proof of Richmond residency, such as a hydro bill, rent receipt, driver’s license, BCID, or BC Services Card

You will not qualify without the required documents. Please call 604-279-7035 if you have any questions.
