YVR Golf For Kids Lends Support to "Skate with Santa" Event

October 26, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YVR Golf For Kids has donated $5,000 from its September 15th fundraiser to support the Richmond Christmas Fund's "Skate with Santa." The event is held each December at Minoru Arenas and open to all families with children under 12 who register with the Fund.

"The kids love it," says Elizabeth Specht, Executive Director of Volunteer Richmond Information Services. "They get to skate alongside Santa, take photos with him, and even receive a gift bag at the end. We're able to create some really special Christmas memories, and we want to thank YVR Golf For Kids for making that possible."

YVR Golf For Kids has been supporting local children's charities since 1991. The annual event, which includes a golf tournament, gala dinner, and silent auction, is organized by members of the airport community and, over the past two decades, has raised more than $3 million for organizations like Canuck Place Children's Hospice.

"The impact YVR Golf For Kids has had on the community cannot be overstated," says Specht. "It's an inspiring 20 year legacy, one we're proud the Richmond Christmas Fund can share in."

In addition to distributing grocery vouchers to over 2,000 low-income Richmond residents each holiday season, the Christmas Fund provides nearly 1,000 children with toys, games, and books. Family registration begins in late November, with a complete list of dates and times available at www.volunteerrichmond.ca.

The donation will help support the Christmas Fund’s “Skate with Santa,” a free event open to all families who register with the program.

The Richmond Christmas Fund mobilizes the community’s spirit of giving to make holiday wishes come true for 2,000 low-income Richmond residents each year. Each person registered with the program receives a grocery voucher and nearly 1,000 children under 15 years old also receive toys or gift cards donated to the program.
