Youth Now is designed to harness the leadership potential found in our community by training young adults, who are high school graduates and under the age of 26, to serve as board members for local non-profit organizations.
There are two distinct components to the Youth Now module: 1) a leadership development program for high school graduates under the age of 26 who are looking to make an impact in their community; and 2) an opportunity for non-profit organizations to strengthen their boards through the infusion of younger community leaders.
Leadership Richmond – Youth Now will not only teach young adults how to be equal partners in leadership on voluntary boards, but will also teach boards how to harness the power of full youth participation. The experience will build board leadership and diversity while benefiting Richmond youth.
The program includes training for both the young adults and non-profit organizations participating in the program. Youth Now leaders develop their leadership skills, along with their understanding of the roles that boards of directors fill and the benefits of being involved as a community leader. Organizations learn how to strengthen their boards by involving youth as full participants and mentoring them through the program.
Besides training community leaders, Leadership Richmond – Youth Now also aims to spark a shift within voluntary organizations so that they view youth and young adults as full participants in leadership: as board members and as the champions of their missions and causes, not only in the future but also right now.
We are currently accepting applications from young adults to participate in the 2010-2011 Leadership Richmond – Youth Now program.
