A joint initiative of Volunteer Richmond Information Services, Coast Capital Savings, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and Ashton Service Group, the Richmond Caring Companies program is based on a simple premise: when businesses and non-profit organizations work together, the entire community benefits.
One of the key ways of fostering sustainable partnerships between the business and non-profit sectors is through employer-supported volunteer programs. When implemented effectively, such programs offer benefits to everyone involved:
Non-profit organizations gain access to a diverse group of skilled volunteers who will often bring new and innovative ideas to the table, helping the organization to better carry out its mission.
Businesses receive recognition for their high level of corporate social engagement and commitment to the community. As well, they benefit from increased employee morale, productivity, and loyalty.
Employees learn a wide range of new skills through volunteering, many of which can be transferred to the workplace. Most importantly, they feel a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing they've contributed to the betterment of their community.
How the Program Works
Businesses
Through a series of workshops and consultations, businesses who take part in the Richmond Caring Companies program receive the resources and guidance they need to implement (or enhance) an employer-supported volunteer program.
Each year, all Richmond Caring Companies come together for a day of volunteering - the Richmond Day of Caring - in which employees work with local non-profit organizations on a variety of community projects.
