Constellation Award: Louise Young

Through her volunteer work, Louise Young has assisted a diverse range of community groups and organizations. So diverse, in fact, that one would be hard pressed to find an area of the community on which she hasn’t had a positive and long-lasting impact.

She began volunteering in 1977, when she served as President of South Arm Women’s Auxiliary. 34 years later, her volunteer resume has grown substantially: the amount of time, energy, and passion Louise has devoted to community service is inspiring, to say the least.

As Chair of the Board of the Richmond Community Services Centre Society, she was instrumental in raising funds for the construction of the Richmond Caring Place. Completed in 1994, the building is currently home to 13 local non-profit organizations, and has grown to become a cornerstone of the community.

She served on Gateway Theatre’s Board of Directors for five years, and for the past 10 years has been involved with the Advanced Society for Children with Learning Disabilities, now known as Camp Eureka.

From 2001 to 2011 she was a Board Member of the Richmond Community Foundation and continues to volunteer with the organization.

An avid curler, she has served on the Richmond Curling Club’s Board of Directors for three years running.

Louise is always ready to offer a helping hand, whether it’s to plan an event, assist with fundraising, or write a grant. For her, giving back is its own reward.
